Exhaust system regulations
In November 2009 the UK adopted a new homologation policy that affects all cars from 2001.
This means that all cars need either to have an exhaust system that is supplied by the manufacturer of the car as standard or from the manufacturer that supplies the production line for your make, which means that they have homologation certificates.
Alternatively an exhaust system that has got a CE approval or and ABE certificate.
All manufacturers of aftermarket systems must provide a copy of the relevant certifiacates when supplying the exhaust or individual sections of the exhaust.
From November 2009 it is illegal to have any exhaust system on any car being built in 2001 or after.
MOT stations will have to fail the car when a MOT is carried out.
Additionally VOSA can on any spot check either PG9 it, which means the car can either be just driven to a workshop within a specified time (a couiple of hours) or if it is an immediate PG9, the car will have to be lifted on all 4 wheels. Any attempt to drive it might mean that the driver is getting arrested.
In practical terms this means that any current powerflow, longlife and custom exhaust is deemed illegal.
This applies to a number of other makes too and you best enquire with your supplier when wanting to get a new exhaust or a performance exhaust.
We will update this first post with which exhausts carry the homologation certificates and when manufacturers have added new ones.

Re: Exhaust system regulations
Hi Peter,
Where have you learnt this from?
I found the below after reading this.
http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200809/cmhansrd/cm091105/text/91105w0003.htm
And wonder if it relates?
Also the only concrete Law i found was a change to ensure type approved Catalytic Convertors.

Just another way to make everyone in the UK a compliant slave to the system.

We are working as usual on it to get around this problem legally.

Re: Exhaust system regulations
i thought this was just drafted legislation, not actual law?
on a side note, my mate got pulled by VOSA last night for a quick check and they didnt say anything about the exhaust.
